Thanks for your response, Phil. It is a great relief to be excused from photographing cardboard boxes with holes cut in them!
Do I understand correctly that your recommended approach to flare compensation (with expo-dev) is to plug in the .02 value and leave it alone? If you were photographing a scene in which you knew there would be an unusual amount of lens flare (e.g., my sunset example) would you increase that .02 value at all?
