I agree with Walter; as far as I can tell there's no practical way to apply BTZS methods to digital imagery, so I'd also suggest proofing your negatives on conventional photographic paper. If those prints are unsatisfactory we'll have some realistic basis for troubleshooting suggestions.
The conversion to digital is a brand new ballgame, but I'm pretty sure that if you can produce negatives that print easily on photo paper you'll have very little difficulty in getting good digital prints as well.
