Then it seems likely that Beyond The Zone System will forever remain the province of "We few, we blessed few, we band of BTZS'ers."
I do think we need to make some effort to form a core (cyber) community of BTZS users. For those of us without a science background, some parts of BTZS are conceptually challenging (without referring back to the book, could you explain the fractional-gradient method of speed point determination, or even how flare makes it impossible accurately to test film in-camera?) It is helpful to be able to put one's questions to a group that, cumulatively, has much experience and expertise to offer.
I suspect Phil's comment will have effectively ended any further musings about "BTZS Lite," but I would be interested in hearing from other photographers how they came to BTZS, and whether it has improved not just their understanding of the photographic process but the quality of their negatives, as well. |
