I suppose I could send you my paper curves, but since we dont use the same contrast method I dont know that they would be any good to you.
As far as papers go I am not one to chase the magic bullet and try many papers, I have stuck with a few and those are the ones I know best. My favorite is Socorro, also known as Van Gelder Simili Japon. B&S does not sell socorro anymore so you will have to go with New York art to get it as Van Gelder. Yes, even ht pressed papers have a "good side", if you are using deckled paper (like COT320) the "good side is where the bevel of the deckling ends. Cold pressed paper and the hand made papers should be easy to identify the smoother side.
I dont like COT320, I prefer Arches Platine. As a matter of fact since you starting I would urge to get it, although it is expensive you will save money in the long run by getting prints that sing instead of trying to make a shitty paper work.
Although Arentz recommends Cranes Platinotype, I could never make a good print with it, they were all sort of blah....but who knows, you might have better luck.
I dont use the matcher, if you print the step tablets for your paper curves, you will see the contrast range easily and wont need the matcher.
Good luck,
Jorge. |
