What you're talking about is gradation and that's what the Matcher display will symbolize. I don't know what gradation characteristics you'd describe as "harsh" or "soft" but if you can relate those subjective descriptions to specific types of Matcher displays you'll have a good standard for use in evaluating other materials combinations.
Yes, film, film developer, and paper all affect gradation and each has its unique characteristic. It's often possible to find several combinations that yield similar "looks" in the print image. |
