Yes I agree. As a matter of fact I've just ordered a new batch of paper and film and will be testing with that combination.
I'm interested in using the Oriental Seagull G fiber grade 2 with either Illford HP5 or TMX 100 depending on what I'm doing. So far I've used the Forte Bromofort Grade 2, however that paper is incredibly hard to find these days, especially in 8X10 format, and I'm not much for special order. I only have a few papers of that one and need to find something with similar characteristics.
What I liked about the Bromofort is its smooth grading from black to white and how it holds the highlights real nicely, while not loosing shadow detail. I'm hoping the Seagull paper will do that. I remember it doing that last I used it, but I don't know what the new version will do... I guess that's why we use BTZS with a small package of paper and test its characteristics to see how it would behave under different developers.
