Thank you. The article to which you directed me has a clear and concise explanation of how unsharp masking works. It also helped me to understand what several respondents have reported: that the technique does not work for every image, and that there is some art to getting the strength of the mask right.
The reason that I posted the question on this forum is that unsharp masking seems to have had near mystical virtues attributed to it. I thought BTZSers who had experimented with unsharp masking would be most likely to give me straight information on whether it works as advertised and, if so, how it works. |
