Hi Lance - I prefer using an incident meter over a spot meter. When I first learned the BTZS system I started using the incident meter and found it easier to use.

Also when teaching BTZS workshops I find the incident meter easier for the students to learn and they get good negatives right away. In fact I sold my spot meter a few years ago as I hadn't used it in many years.

Since you are trying both you might try one side of the film holder with the incident meter. It's a good way to learn metering. Using the Expo/Dev software write the information about your metering in the memo section so you can use it as a learning tool. So when you look at your negatives, you can compare the spot meter and incident meter negatives.

Please see Phil Davis's Dexter portfolio - it was the first test of the incident system. If you do have any questions you can call me.
