I am doing this by 'eyeball' so take that into account. I took my calibrated step wedge and did some contact prints. On 'grade 2' my first all white block is at 2.68. My first all black block is at 1.37. That is a difference of 1.31. According to the chart on page 89 of the latest edition of the book, grade 2 is about 1.05. All grades are 'over' using this method. Visually, white to black, I can count 11 blocks. 5.5 stops? If I use steps of .3 per stop I would get 3.5 stops up to 1.05, mid point of grade 2? Oh. This is variable contrast paper and I am using Kodak's filter setting for my enlarger. |
