Did you arrive at that paper ES value by a Plotter test/analysis or did you simply make an empirical adjustment?
I suspect you're right about the shadow metering error. BTZS methods make the photographer the weak link in the process and the symptoms you described (well-exposed shadows and low overall contrast) indicate too-extreme shadow metering. That has two effects; the direct effect is over-exposure; the second effect is to increase the SBR which, in turn, results in under-development that reduces contrast. |
