I tend to agree with what you are saying Ben however the Expodev as it is set up requires a [for want of a better term] low zone and high zone value.
So how do you approach a subject with a spot meter as putting a low reading on z 2 - 3 or even 4 will make a major difference to the image. As will where the highest reading is placed.
With incident basically the shadow reading is the lowest dark value with a touch of detail so with the expodev is that a z3 or a z2
I fully understand SBR's but also wish to get a detailed full range print so where the low value is placed has a very strong impact on the image.
If you have an example of how you go about the use of the spot meter I would be interested to know
