Read the book. Very interesting and some stupidly obvious things that I SHOULD have learned before now. The part about adjusting film speed as you push and pull for contrast for instance. Oh well.
I was thinking about putting a step wedge in a film holder, outside the film, aiming at a wall painted with glossy white paint and using a combo flash/incident meter. Any reason why this shouldn't work for my film testing?
