I'm afraid you are right on this one. At least as far as I have tried. I scanned in my calibrated step wedge and opened it in Gimp. I thought that if I turned the image into a 'negative' and compressed the scale to that of my step wedge, I might be able to take direct reflection readings using the 'eyedropper' which gives value readings. It didn't work, but my scanner software does 'automatic corrections'. But, I finally scored a densitometer at a reasonable price. Under $115 delivered. Transmission and reflection. The Xrite 810's seem to be the popular choice and used prices seemed too high, so I took a chance on a Macbeth TR927. Since I am technically oriented I never mind having more equipment. |
