I recently acquired a epson perfection 4870 photo scanner. Until I read your comment I thought I was doing pretty good with scanning my BTZS 4X5 negatives. Infact, my problem is that my scanned negatives have produced nicer images on my monitor than I have as yet produced on paper from my darkroom. I haven't tried to digitally print the same images yet however. I am for the most part a Linux user and use iscan software for scanning and the 'Gimp 2.0' instead of photoshop. I agree with you that an accurately produced BTZS negative should easily produce good images in either digital or traditional modes. My original goal was to simply scan my negs and create a digital filing system with thumbnail previews. I was shocked at how well the (reversed) scanned negatives looked with very little effort on my part(one scanner setting). |
