Phil, I know you have answered this ad naseaum but I just cant find the answer in the forum so I have to ask here because this is making me nervous.
As you know I am a recent convert to the BTZS, and I am also lazy...so before I did all the film testing I "borrowed" Clay Harmon`s data as published in unblinkingeye to see if his times and SBR's would work for me. Turns out that with minor modifications to my developing procedure his times worked perfect for me. Now that I got the expo/dev, Clay was kind enough to send me his files so I can use them with my expo/dev until I get my step tablets for testing.
So, before I go out and waste film I decided to just walk around the house and yard practicing exposure and using the expo/dev. So here is my question (I am sure you were wanting me to get to the point) in the Plotter/expo dev the EFS is lets say 237 for TMY in pyrocat and an SBR of 7, yet I have been using an EI of 400 when I was doing it manually. Being nervous about this I checked the exposure recommended by the expo/dev against an exposure result done manually and both are exactly the same, well almost. Expo/dev recommends 1.2 sec at f/45, meter gives 1 sec at f/45. I know you wrote about doubling the EFS's in some circumstances but I cannot find it, would you explain this to me again? I have to understand this before I feel confident about using the Expo/dev. |
