I don't think there's any real conflict in your metering comparisons. Expo/Dev is indicating the film speed that's appropriate for the 7-stop SBR (the full 400 speed is appropriate for an average gradient of 0.62 which may or may not be the same thing, depending on your ES value. If you're using an ES of 1.4 for platinum, for example, a gradient of 0.62 is equivalent to an SBR of 7.5 stops). Expo/Dev is also including some compensation for reciprocity so the increase from 1 second to 1.2 seconds is not surprising.
If you're going to use Expo/Dev (and I recommend it) you can forget the "doubled film speed" adjustment; it applies ONLY when you are relying on the INCIDENT (not spot) meter readings themselves and following the Plotter charts for EFS and development data. |
