I had been using DDX 1:7 for "old Tmax 400".. and now I am finding I need to cut concentration to 1:8 or 1:9 with the new TMY emulsions in order to achieve the 11.5-12 SBR's I used to be able to squeeze out of the film, roll or sheet...I do as lot of shooting inside buildings and I try to preserve window detail AND shadow details... meaning big SBR range....
I am sure Phil will weigh in and he wil be able to tell us more.. what I recall having read (never tested) is that lower concentrations are supposed to result in larger grain size and higher concentrations are alleged to result in less accutance, but smaller grain size... i have not tested either of these "urban legends" ... the Film Developing Cookbook has a few pages of "anecdotal" explanation... |
