The 12% meter calibration is the least of the problems. The more serious thing is the fact that the incident meter measures illumination (raw light) and the spotmeter measures the combined effect of light and reflectance.
This is by no means certain to be useful but you might try spotmetering a black object in the shade and increasing the EV by 2-1/2 stops before aligning it with the Lo fan line of the PowerDial, or entering it as the Lo EV number in Expo/Dev. Alternatively, if you can place a gray card in the shade for your spot reading you can use the resulting EV directly as the Lo EV entry.
Between those extremes it's a crap shoot; if all you can meter in the shade is some object of unknown color and value—lighter than black but darker than a gray card—all you can do is make a guess at the exposure adjustment.
If you're working manually (without either the PowerDial or Expo/Dev) it's even more uncertain......good luck! |
