It is possible to use BTZS with staining developers but the degree of precision possible will be less with some processes than if using non-stained negatives. VC papers in particular pose the greatest problem because densitometer readings, even if taken in blue mode, will not exactly match the printing density of VC papers. If your densitometer has ortho mode there will be a closer match, but it is still not precise. Also, the stain varies a lot in color, depending on the particular staining developer being used and on film.

Precision is much better with graded silver papers, AZO for example, since the density read in blue mode is very close to effective printing density. Again, the relationship is not quite as precise as with non-staining developers but it is very close, and much better than with VC papers.

The greatest precision is found with UV sensitive processes, such as gum, carbon and Pt./Pd butr you muset have a densitometer that reads UV. In this case precision of BTZS is virtualy the same with staining and non-staining developers.
