Gordon Hutchings' The Book of Pyro, is a pretty good reference on the use of pyro developers. He does mention the use of blue light or color channel densitometers to read the density of pyro stained negatives. My limited experience in using pyro developers is that the precision and acuracy you gain in using the BTZS method of exposure and development of film is somewhat offset by variability of the resultant image stain inherent in the pyro staining process. None the less the BTZS methods if carefully employed will net you more consistent negatives than the trial and error methods. Also consider the fact you will need to consider which enlarger light source you will you use. Lastly, as an M.D., I will remind you that pyrogallol is a bit more toxic than most people are used to using in the closed confines( such as darkrooms) use good ventilation and gloves. |
