Steve: What an interesting an informative post! Thanks for taking the time to inform all of us of your experiments.
I also have been intrigued with various Pyro formulations. I wonder if you have printed any negatives devloped in PMK, and if you are convinced that there is a diffference in the tones of the resultant print versus prints made from negatives devloped with your usual developer and correctly exposed using your BTZS method. I ask because I have read that very well respected photographers have claimed to have seen no difference in prints made from negatives developed in Pyro versus prints made using careful exposure and developed in their standard ( D 76, etc. )developer. Indeed, I have been told that when such prints are observed side by side, impartial observers are not able to see any differences in tonal range or shading in prints made from negatives developed in Pyro versus similar scenes developed in "standard devlopers" and which are printed on identical papers. The key variable, of course, is to have negatives with exposures that are exacly similar and which are developed to the same density and SBR.
If Phil is able to read the various posts, perhaps he will be able to comment as well.
