Ah well, at the risk of sounding like an ass, read the book..
Phil has a chapter on testing 35 mm film. What I used to do, many, many years ago was to mark the canisters with the appropriate developing and I would interchange canisters as the need arose. For example if I was taking a N+1 (this was before I knew how to use the BTZS) shot and had a roll with pictures to be developed for N, I would rewind the roll, note the number of the last picture I had taken with that roll and replace it with the N+1 roll. If I needed the N roll again I would put it back and go one more pic than the last number. Of course, you need a camera that has manual rewind and does not pull the leader all the way in.
