I attended a fascinating seminar taught by Michael Smith and Paula Chamlee. Most of you know that they are very accomplished in the use of Azo paper, and Amidol developer. I have discussed some of the issues involved with the BTZS method and Azo paper with Fred. Of course, the negatives must be contact printed, and as Fred pointed out, because of the lower speed of Azo paper, developed to a greater density than would ordinarily be the case. Fred is going to help me run some film tests with the new Tmax 400 in an effort to construct some Expodev files that can be used for producing negatives for Azo paper. Fred has also graciously agreed to help construct some paper curves for both the new Lodima paper, and the now discontinued Azo paper ( of which I have an unopened box, grade 2 ). We plan to use Formulary 130 developer, and one of the readily available Ilford paper developers as chosen by Fred. Please send either of us some thoughts, and suggestions, concerning our small BTZS research project. Check back in a few weeks for more information. Of course it would be my pleasure to share my film curves with anyone who is interested ( Jobo expert tanks, DDX, 75 F ).Although I don't want to speak for Fred, I feel very sure that the Azo paper curves will also be available for BTZS afficianados. It is great to have Fred available to carry on the Phil Davis tradition of teaching and helping.
