Well, I really have no idea either. I've never used the DOS program so I'm not familar with what pieces are necessary in order to copy it from one machine to the next. If you have an old 1.2mb disk that is not copying onto a newer 1.4mb disk all I can think of is that the source disk may be damaged in some way. There is no other reason why the files from a smaller diskette would not copy to a larger diskette.
However if you have a computer that is running Windows XP I am guessing that it is a more modern machine and has plenty of space for something as small as the Windows version of Plotter/Matcher. WinPlotter really is a tiny program compared to most Windows software with vast improvements in UI, printing, and online documentation.
You've already made the decision to use Windows XP, why not use modern software that was designed to run on it as well?
As far as space, running an old DOS program under Window XP will probably use more memory as it has to emulate DOS in order for the program to execute. And for HD space, a lot has changed in 10 years. HD space is 100 times what it used to be and a fraction of the cost.
Just my 2 cents, david |
