once i get the water bath the right temp and I believe the tubes sre room temp or above I simply put the tubes in the refrigerator to no more then 15 seconds and that just seems to be right to take the ambient heat out of the pvc tube.They are not cold but that are not hot either. I load them fairly quickly but not rushed and off I go. I have measured the temp of the developer after a process cycle and it is always within 1 degree of the start temp. The pre soak cycle will get you some lost negs I assure you. I mentioned this to Fred Newman and he agrees that if it is a problem , even intermittent, eliminate that step. I like the quick chill technique. Don,t over do it though.
