The development process appears to be neither purely arithmetic nor geometric because the rate of contrast increase varies rather considerably for different film/dev combinations. But, as you've observed, the geometric time progression usually results in fairly evenly-spaced curves which is a good thing. So I'd suggest that if you want to extend the development range without increasing the number of film sheets, you might use a higher multiplier. For example, using 1.53 instead of 1.4 will take you from 4 to about 22 minutes in geometric steps and I believe you'll find the curves nicely spaced. |
