Elliot: This is an interesting ? Phil Davis pointed out that you can't really meter small detailed shadow areas or cracks in wood with incident metering. you have to mimic those areas by using your hand over the meter. Now you've mention Zones (shame on you). Are really shooting incident or spot? Here's what I would do- Incident meter the scene for the highest reading possible, then using your hand, try to guesstimate a lower reading which you think will provide acceptable shadow detail. If the scene in Z's is 3-5 (2 stops), the SBR is 7. You may run into reciprosity and if so I have some data I can share. Tell me what film you're using. Ben |
