Plus X Aerographic Film Testing
Mike Pry  17:59 11 Apr 05
I was given a roll( 9.5" X 125" ) of this film and decided to try testing it tonite. Before I dove in with 5 sheets I just exposed one and developed for 8 minutes to see what it would look like. Now the label says ISO 125 with no special aerographic designation on it. On Kodaks website it lists it as ISO A 200. No mention of 125...anywhere. I saw an older roll awhile back at a camera show and it was listed as AEFS 200. According to Kodak that is the same as the ISO A 200 ("A" meaning aerographic). There is a differance between pictoral and aerographic speeds. Anyways I am attracted to this film as there is a fella on ebay selling it very reasonably and if it works out I might buy a couple rolls.

Well, I have carefully callibrated my testing process with Delta 100 as per Phils speed point article and my EV for 100 speed films puts me with my meter and enlarger at EV 3. That brings me in right on the money. Well assuming(a dangerous word) this is pictoral ISO 125 I would then expose at 2.67 for it to fall properly on my PSP of 2.4. I did that and the result was weak...very weak(at 8 min. developing time). The last step to show just a small trace of detail was #16. Now that tells me somethings amuck. Before the PSP feature I understood we would simply increase exposure by about 1.5 stops to give a hint of detail at # 19 and leave 20 & 21 clear, right. But if I do that my PSP is going to be incorrect, won't it? Where would I go from here with this testing.

I know Christain Nze in Paris uses this film almost exclusively and loves it as does Jim Galli out in Nevada.
Thank you for any light anyone can shed on this problem.
