you need to start somewhere. Do number two except set your electronic timer for .5 sec and you should contact print your step wedge onto a sheet of film. Do one sheet of an iso 100 film (Tmax,Acros,Delta)and process it for 5.5 minutes. Read it with a densitometer. Read the most dense area (#1). If the density is somewhere near .87 (.84 to .89) you are on the right track. It would be safe at that exposure set-up to run the 5 sheet test. If not you've only wasted one sheet of film and you will have a good idea which way to go. Stay with exposure time of .4sec. or .5sec. As far as the metering, get 4 ev with the meter set on asa 100 by elevating or lowering the enlarger head with lens @ f/8 or f/11,ignore the F stop/time readout on the meter dial. |
