Nothing has changed.... What I think has happened here is that using the BTZS in different modes. If you use the "software" mode in which you use the plotter program and the ExpoDev program jointly you don't have to deal with mentally doing the math and calculations you mention. The other issue is that according to Phil and the tenants of Btzs the incident meter does not accurately in most cases read EV levels when set other than @ 100. All the calculations both mentally of by softwarte are based on that fact . The speed reference point was really to give the software a "real" calibration point. Using the software without that point would lead to some signifigant error because there would be no link between how Phil, or you, or I , or anyone else did our testing. the software would have no idea if you really started with 4 EV exposure standard that looked anything like that established by Phil or anyone else for that matter. Again refer to the article examples of what happens with and without the speed point calibration. The people who do alternative process with UV exposure who need more contrasty negatives that are more "robust" and who need to push the shadow details higher up the exposure curve standardize on speed points more in the neighborhood of 2.5-2.6. If you remember from the book Phil talks about doubling of the film speed only when doing all of the calculations by hand and not using the Expodev softeware that does all of that for you automatically using of course the meter inputs provided by you with the incident meter set to asa 100. Nothing has changed.... One way you are doing the math by "hand" and the other way the computer is doing it for you. to be honest for speed and accuracy I think it is better to us the combination of the plotter and expodev programs . The software facilitates the process immensely.. . However, I wholeheartedly agree with the desire to understand the process clearly and accurately. this is also quite edifying.... Miles p.s. This is the private email I wrote Ben prior to Phils ' responce I hope it passed "muster" . |
