John --
Paper development times may be different for different paper/dev combinations so no single time is "optimum" for all materials. To discover the optimum time for your materials I'd suggest exposing several strips of paper through a step tablet for identical times then develop them for various times from some obviously too-short time to some extremely long time, with several intervening times.
A good sequence might be 30 secs, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 4 minutes and 8 minutes. Read the finished strips and plot them. The optimum time will be the shortest time that provides a uniform curve that reaches Dmax. Typically this will be beween 1-1/2 and 3 minutes for common papers and popular paper developers. |
