Fred --
Good questions. Contact printing eliminates both possible fog from stray light in the darkroom, and the flare and diffusion effects of the enlarger's optical system. That's the test method to use if you want to correlate your data with the manufacturer's numbers—or if you plan to print by contact. But because you plan to print by projection you'll want any fog, flare, or diffusion, that will affect your prints, to be included in your test numbers.
So you should test by projection, and magnification is not important. I'd suggest making your test images life-size (4x5) to save paper but larger images are OK, too. I hope you'll enjoy BTZS. |
