I don't think there is any ideal development time for portrait work. Underexposure and overdevelopment will produce unnaturally contrasty negatives and while that sort of treatment might be suitable for certain types of portraits, I don't think it is likely to be satisfactory for all others. Since you're using roll film you don't have much film development flexibility so my general suggestion would be to develop your film normally and control image contrast during the printing process. That way you should be able to interpret your portrait subjects freely. |
