Much of the discussion centres around the actual BTZS system which I, for one, find totally effective in practice.
I would just like to add a vote of thanks for another BTZS aid: The Focussing Tube hood. I use it on both a Toyo 810MII and a Sinar F 8x10. Beats the socks off a horse blanket and also beats using the wide-angle bellows and binocular magnifier of the Sinar system. To be honest I haven't found the need for one in 4x5 as yet because I use a Linhof Technikardan with a pop-up folding hood and a light black cloth which suffice with considerable ease but in 8x10 the BTZS Tube hood is a Godsend.
