OK. I have scored a second hand densitometer. Transmission/Reflection. I have a holiday weekend coming up and a tropical depression dominating the weather for the duration. Looks like a good time to do some testing. One thing that I do not understand is determining the exposure for the film test and how that ends up relating to being able to find the speed points. My enlarger timer is electronic so I can use that. A camera lens would probably give a more even/accurate exposure but I don't have a lens that will do .4 seconds. Well, I hope they don't since they aren't marked for that. Are we looking for a specific amount of light in foot candles or lux seconds? My exposure meter reads out in all sorts of different values. Even does some densitometry. How do I determine how much exposure in terms of brightness and time for a 400 speed film and how does that end up relating back to the graph for speed determination? Also, should the film test be done on a black background to prevent bounce? |
