We've have customers that are successfully running ExpoDev on the MAC using VirtualBox or Parallels, but it might be easier to use the old PC you have. Go to the palm.com website and under support download the Palm Desktop software that is correct for your Palm or Handspring device.
Once you get HotSync to work the rest will be easy.
