This weekend past here in Adelaide we had an annual photographic sell meet. Normally there are the usual dealers that bring all the items that are normally not displayed because of shelf space. Also many photographers bring items that are "no longer needed" as they stumble over the digital divide. Here in Australia 5x4 enlargers with anything other than condenser heads are hard to locate so I was on the lookout for a diffusion head for my D2 Omega.
Imagine my suprise when I found a guy selling his De Vere 504 with all the latest mint Rodenstock 50, 80, 105, 150 lenses. The neg carrier also had all the inserts for 35mm, 6x6, 6x9 and 5x4. Spare globes and a full instruction book. The enlarger also has the complete integrated De Vere timer and all the movements are smooth. The enlarger isn't totally mint but is extremely good.
I'm amazed at the availability of very expensive equipment now at very cheap prices.
I'm now actually looking forward to re doing my paper tests to allow for the new light source. One minor good point of digital
I suppose the only draw back with the enlarger is the very short printing exposures due to the rather bright 250 watt globe. I will see if I can get a less intense globe later on. |
