I just learned of Phil's passing and I really must say that photography has suffered a great loss. I 've corresponded with Phil ever since his 1st BTZS Edition and used his recommendations for film/developer for many years. He was very generous, sharing many of his test results with graphs and film curves. His early paper on tube/film development eliminated the problems with uneven film edge density common with tray use. I was encouraged by his recent article in View Camera testing T-Max 400/DDX, hoping that his retirement was only temporary and we would continue to have his BTZS guidance for many more years. Whenever I crank up my 4X5, I'll always have Phil's hand on my shoulder. Thanks Phil for introducing me to a better way in photography. My sincere condolences to Phil's family. Ben Wilbur |
