Sandy --
I don't think you'll have any trouble making the transition to WinPlotter via Virtual PC. I don't know of any inexpensive solution to this problem (the VPC software is about $200) but I've had very satisfactory results with my 733mHz G4 and VPC with Windows 98. I ran it originally under system 9.2.1 but have recently upgraded to the OS X version. Both were satisfactory. The only real penalty you pay is speed, and it's not very serious with Windows 98 (don't get XP or you'll grow old waiting for it).
Incidentally, there are some nice features of this combination; for example, WinPlotter can read and open the Mac PlotterPlus files althoug it loses the step tablet information. You can replace that easily. Another nice feature is the ability to drag and drop files between Windows and the Mac OS.
I've had no stability problems or conflicts with either version but I prefer working in OS X. There's no need for a separate Windows partition; it runs in its own window right on the Mac desktop. |
